PUPPY HEAD START CLASS

Open to dogs 8 months or younger
This is not your average puppy class. While owners will learn to teach their dogs key obedience skills, the larger focus of this class is to teach owners the foundations of canine learning that empower them to address new problems as they develop and build new skills in the future. Through this class, dog owners will learn to create a dog that will not only follow commands, but enthusiastically look to their handler for direction!
By taking this class, you will create a strong foundation in communication and training that will empower you to build new behaviors and address potential problems long after you have completed this course.
This is the class for you if you want a dog that:
*Walks nicely on a leash.
*Can settle and relax on cue.
*Comes when you call them.
*Listens to your commands.
*Relaxes during grooming and nail trims.
*Is properly socialized to new people, dogs, and other distractions.
*Has a well-rounded skillset to prevent problems before they start!
Puppy Training Class Requirements:

Must be at least 9 weeks old by the first class.

Must have been living with you for at least 14 days and show no signs of illness.

The first distemper-parvo vaccine must have been administered at least 14 days prior to attending class.

Distemper-parvo boosters must be current and continued every 3-4 weeks until the puppy is at least 16 weeks old.

Bordetella/kennel cough vaccine must be given at least 3 days before attending.
-
Rabies vaccination is required by 16 weeks of age, but not needed to start class.
*Note: The first week is a dog-free orientation session.
Open to dogs over 8 months of age
This is not your average basic obedience class. Through this course you will learn how to lay critical foundation skills in communication that will set you and your dog up for success through the entirety of your lives together.
Being a great dog owner is more than just knowing how to get your dog to do tricks. Sit, down, and stay are all great tools to help on your dog training journey, but this class will offer something much deeper. At Summit K9, we believe in taking a holistic approach to training that takes into account your lifestyle and your relationship with your pet. This means that our classes focus not only on teaching behaviors and training techniques, but teaching you how to fold training into everyday life with your dog.
By taking this class, you will create a strong foundation in communication and training that will empower you to build new behaviors and address potential problems long after you have completed this course.
This course will take a deep dive into how dogs learn, how to communicate with your dog, how to motivate your dog to volunteer the behaviors that you want and ditch the ones you don't, and ultimately, how you can become your dog's best friend!

This class is for dog owners of all experience levels who are ready to turn daily walks into a joy, not a chore! Mastering the Leash focuses on building confident, effective leash communication that strengthens your relationship and sets the tone for stress-free, connected movement with your dog.
Through a mix of practical skill-building and mindset work, you’ll learn how to minimize pulling and distractions, fine-tune your dog’s focus, and create flowing, no-conflict walks. Whether you’re just starting out or refining the “heel,” this class will help you and your dog walk together with purpose, clarity, and ease.

Harness your dog's natural drive to sniff in a fun activity that both you and your pup will love! Descended from drug and bomb sniffing applications, Scent Detection has quickly become one of the most popular dog sports in the United States. Scent Detection is a team sport that helps owners connect with their pets on a deeper level and provides an interactive physical and mental outlet for their dogs.
Join our Scent Detection classes to get started on detection basics and get to know other owners that are also excited about learning and growing with their dogs! Classes will be posted individually and will fill on a first come, first serve basis. The goal of this program is to provide dog-owner pairs with a fun and enriching way to continue to challenge themselves and build their teamwork and training skills without imposing heavy long term expenses.
Dogs participating in this program will learn to detect and indicate on essential oil odors commonly used in the sport of Scent Work, beginning with birch, anise, and clove.
Humans and dogs of all ages and abilities are welcome. This program is designed both for dog owners seeking a great way to supplement their relationship with their pet or handlers hoping to hone their skill for future competition.
Though participating dogs should be under control at all times, previous obedience training is not required to participate in this club. Any dog can learn to detect odor, and moderate to high food or toy motivation is the only prerequisite!
Aside from being a great activity for dogs and owners to work together at, detection has been proven to help address many behavioral problems as well! When added as a supplement to behavior modification plans, dogs struggling with anxiety, leash reactivity, hyperactivity, and other anxiety related behaviors can show notable improvement. Such dogs are able to express natural drives in a safe and low stress environment, and learn to settle their minds and bodies to complete the task, similar to mindfulness practice in humans.
This course is SHY AND REACTIVE DOG FRIENDLY. Dogs will take turns working, and will likely have little to no exposure to other dogs during class time. Dogs that pose even a minor bite risk to humans should be muzzle conditioned prior to participation in this course to ensure the safety of the trainer and other participants. Though dogs with mild to moderate problem behaviors may still be eligible for this class, by registering, you are agreeing to disclose all problem behaviors to the trainer prior to the first class.
PLEASE NOTE: This class is run "seminar style," meaning that dogs take turns doing their runs and will be required to be either crated in the building OR crated/contained in their owners' vehicles between their turns. This allows each dog to focus on building their detection skills in the early phases, and ensures that this class remains accessible to environmentally sensitive dogs. Scent detection is a surprisingly physically and mentally demanding sport, so this rest time also provides an important break for dogs to recover between their runs. Research suggests that animals learn best when having fun, so enroll in our fun and exciting Controlled Chaos class for faster, more collaborative training progress with your pup! During this class, we will build and strengthen real world training tools through training games and collaborative activities. These classes are engineered as a low expense option for handlers to practice in a group setting and continue their training progress with others in the Summit K9 community!

These classes are engineered as a low expense option for current and past clients to practice in a group setting and continue their training progress with others in the Summit K9 community!

BORN TO PAWFORM:
BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE TRICK CLASS
6 Classes | $199.99
This Summit K9 Trick Class is a fun, upbeat way to build your dog’s confidence, focus, and obedience while learning tricks that impress! Whether your goal is to earn an official AKC Trick Dog Title, or just have fun and bond with your pup, this class is the perfect mix of skill-building and play.
Over 6 weeks, we’ll teach and refine a wide range of beginner-to-intermediate tricks while helping you develop the skills to clearly communicate and motivate your dog. The final class includes the opportunity to earn an AKC Novice or Intermediate Trick Dog Title, evaluated by a certified instructor.
Depending on your dog's experience and motivation, tricks may include:

Spin, roll over, bow, shake, high five

Play dead, crawl, hoop jump, back up

Object targeting, pushing a cart, ringing a bell

Putting toys away, carrying items, weaving through legs

We'll help you choose and polish the tricks your dog can perform confidently for title eligibility.
In the final class, all dogs will have the opportunity to take the AKC Trick Dog test (Novice or Intermediate level). Dogs who pass will receive paperwork to register their title with the AKC.

Elevated Obedience is a small group class tailored to dogs working through behavior challenges or polishing advanced skills like public access, off-leash control, and real-world reliability. This class blends structured guidance with creative problem-solving, offering a mix of hands-on practice, discussion, and off-site field trips to reinforce skills in everyday environments. Whether you're building confidence, working through reactivity, or striving for distraction-proof obedience, this class meets you where you are and helps you level up—together, and with plenty of fun along the way!
Is this class for you?
These standalone classes are designed for students and dogs who have already built a strong foundation of obedience through other Summit K9 services, or with an equivalent training program.
Before enrolling in this class, your dog should have strong formal heeling/loose leash walking skills and engagement when triggers are not present, strong leash pressure fluency, a basic understanding of markers (yes and good being most important), and moderate to strong stays in positions such as sit and down when triggers are not present. Please contact the Summit K9 staff if you are unsure if this class is appropriate!

BREWERY MANNERS CLASS

This is a new class at Summit K9 taught by certified DWYD® Trainer, Marcus Postell. Participants will have the opportunity to take a test on the last day to receive their own Brewery-Friendly Dog Certification.
The Drink With Your Dog® Project is all about helping dog owners teach their dogs great brewery manners skills, so that they can be well-behaved guests at the great dog-friendly breweries they visit. All training tools are welcome, but if you would like to receive a Certified Brewery-Friendly Dog Title, the only tools allowed include flat collar, harness, or martingale in order to take the test on the final day of the class.

Drink With Your Dog® Brewery Manners Class Requirements:

Your dog cannot show reactivity (barking, lunging, growling) towards other dogs or people to ensure all dogs are set up for success.

This class is best for dogs who have had some level of training and elevate their skills, knowing "sit" & "down" are required.
